Researchers now report that oil extracted from coriander seeds can kill a wide variety of pathogenic bacteria. The researchers found that coriander oil was able to damage the membrane of bacterial cells, which ultimately lead to the bacterium’s demise.
Although it is always desirable to see reports that products assumed to be "natural" have useful properties and thus the potential to replace substances often viewed as toxic or potentially harmful, it is important to bear in mind that just like various chemicals noted in prior posts, coriander oil will act as a selection factor and that ultimately resistant organisms will emerge.
